2-7-2007, Arrow Rock Festival 2007 has come to an end
We had all been looking forward to it, but now the Arrow Rock Festival 2007 has drawn to a close. We would like to thank all those who have made this such a great event.

Of course, we also noticed the traffic problems before the start of the festival, casting a shadow over the success of this fifth edition.

Naturally, we are not oblivious to the fact that most visitors to the Arrow Rock Festival come by car. Combining our knowledge and experience with those of the council of Biddinghuizen and the local police force, we put together a practical traffic logistics plan. For this reason we thought we came prepared, but unfortunately we were all surprised by the long traffic queue that eventually was there. Because more visitors than usual came by car – only 1,200 people travelled by train or took the available buses – and carpooling hardly happened, and another event also took place nearby, the Spijkweg (from Harderwijk to the festival grounds) unfortunately couldn’t deal with all this traffic.

We will evaluate this situation extensively with all the parties involved, and make sure there is an adaptation of the traffic logistics plan for next year. At the moment we are looking into all events and a solution is not at hand yet. But we also need the help of the visitors in the future. We will stimulate carpooling and long-distance parking more for coming editions. Nevertheless, we are really annoyed with the situation too, although thankfully the festival’s atmosphere didn’t suffer from it.

Talking to the festivaldirector

Rob Trommelen, festival director, explaining the success of the Arrow Rock Festival

‘This is the fifth year in a row that we organise the Arrow Rock Festival, an anniversary really. This year’s programme is the best of all editions, with acts like Aerosmith, Toto, ZZ Top, Scorpions and Europe. We’re moving this year, from Lichtenvoorde to Biddinghuizen. It’s a great location, right in the middle of our country, with a paved area and a fantastic camp site. We spent a lot of time thinking about it.

‘I invented Arrow Rock Festival five years ago, because I felt there was no festival where people could see their heroes again. This is really a homecoming for bands, terrific. This year, we’ve got bands that haven’t been back since twenty or even twenty-five years, giving Arrow a sense of the timelessness of classic rock. It’s also a return to your own youth.

‘The feeling of Arrow is unique. When I organised the festival for the first time in 2003, I had no idea what would happen. There were 27,000 people, Wishbone Ash was the first act and in the audience people just started crying. That first edition of Arrow Rock Festival was really one big euphoria. My biggest motive to organise the festival will always be the love for the music.’
